The Friends of St Cuthbert's Infant School in Wells have launched their largest project to date by undertaking a Crowdfunding bid to improve the school's playground.
The Playground Project aims to raise £2,000 by the end of July 15 for repairs and improvements, with support being offered by insurance company Aviva.
The Friends of St Cuthbert's Infant School is made up of parents from the school collaborating to make the school an exciting and nourishing environment by raising funds for trips, swimming lessons and resources.
In this Crowdfusing project, the Friends want to level the school's playground and remove some tree roots which could become trip hazards, resurface the playground, and create small spaces for planting and growing.
There are plans to create a friendship area, and repaint games and activities on to the playground floor to create play that is engaging and meaningful.
The Friends want to give the St Cuthbert's teachers an "outside classroom" to promote and enhance the children's learning, and their knowledge and understanding of the world we live in.
Harriet Brine from the Friends told Wells Nub News: "We now more than ever want to recreate our playground to give the children something exciting to come back to and especially for our teachers who have tirelessly worked through this time caring for our key worker children and sending resources home.
"We would be looking for pledges and donations no matter how great or small."
At the time of writing (9.30am on April 30) the Crowdfunding currently stands at £535, which is 26 per cent of the £2,000 total.
The Playground Project will only be funded if at least the target is pledged by 11.59pm on Wednesday July 15.
The Friends' Crowdfunding page says the project is important because: "Fresh air and a stimulating environment is fantastic for children's health and engagement.
"There is lots of evidence and theory of why the outside environment can enhance a child's thought process, creating friendships and the knowledge of risk but with adult guidance.
"Evidence shows that children enjoy the freedom to explore and build their own understanding of the world they live in promoting them to ask questions and explore the answers.
"It gives teachers the tools to understand each child and develop their Individual learning goals and objectives."
As well as the benefit directly to the school, there are many after school activities that would use the enhanced playground.
The school would also use this space for its Christmas Fair, Summer Fair and many of its sponsorship days like Dance-athon and Bounce Day.
