Blue School head takes on 50km challenge for Wells pupil with rare cancer
By Laura Linham 18th Mar 2026
Wells is being urged to rally behind Blue School pupil Eva, with the school's headteacher taking on a 50km ultra challenge to raise money for Sarcoma UK. In an appeal to the community, he said Eva, a Year 11 pupil, is living with a rare and incurable cancer and is still managing to come into school for lessons despite being seriously ill.
Eva has been diagnosed with sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcoma, an aggressive and ultra-rare form of soft tissue cancer. The condition can spread rapidly, and because it is so uncommon there is still limited understanding of how best to treat it.
Described as a talented artist, Eva has already helped raise £2,500 for Sarcoma UK through the sale of her artwork, while a Lands End to John o' Groats bike ride by her family and friends last summer raised over £15,000 for the charity.
Now the next push is under way. The Blue School headteacher, Mark Woodlock is set to walk the Bath 50km Ultra Challenge on 28 March to raise as much as possible for the charity, while also showing support for Eva, her family and other families facing the disease.
He also urged people to watch a video made by Eva and her family, which explains why support for Sarcoma UK matters so much.
Sarcoma UK is funding research into the disease in a bid to understand more about the biology behind it and help find better treatments. Donations can be made through the Blue School's JustGiving page.
