The Liberty in Wells closes as resurfacing works get into full swing

The Liberty in Wells is closed this week during the daytime so the planned resurfacing works can take place.

The scheme involves removal of the old road surface, repairs to the kerbs and drainage system, followed by full carriageway resurfacing.

The resurfacing itself requires a road closure to keep the workforce and travelling public safe.

This is taking place during half term through to Friday (February 21) to minimise disruption to schools and the road will reopen overnight outside working hours of 7.30am to 6pm. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained wherever possible.

Councillor John Woodman, Somerset County Council's Cabinet Member for Highways, said: "This is a busy location and the improvements are very welcome but it does mean some temporary disruption while we are working.

"We're doing our best to keep this to a minimum by planning most of the works for half-term and reopening the road outside of working hours."

Somerset County Council looks after more than 4,170 miles of road and in 2018/19 invested £24.7 million to keep the county moving, including filling 18,519 potholes and delivering 385 highway maintenance schemes ranging from drainage works to carriageway and footway resurfacing.
