Mendip's ambitious plans to provide much-needed social housing right across the district is a step closer.
The scheme - the first for two decades - promises to create jobs, boost skills and the local economy, while leaving a lasting legacy of social homes offering fair rents for residents.
Temporary traffic lights are scheduled to be used in place of the usual lights at the Strawberry Way crossroads in Wells for a couple of days next week.
The multi-way lights are due to be used at the crossroads where Tucker Street and Burcott Road meet Strawberry Way, on Thursday (July 16) and Friday (July 17).
The new Wells Rotary Club president Margaret Wright visited the Wells Vineyard Foodbank to presents a cheque for £500 to its pastor Sue Marland.
"The Foodbank has seen a 100 per cent increase in requests for help and every donation is gladly received," said Margaret.

Wells WI had another online meeting this month, with 24 members attending via Zoom.
We learned that annual subscriptions, normally payable in January, won't be due until April, in acknowledgement of recent disruption that has prevented normal meetings.

Plans to build four homes behind the Mermaid Inn, Wells, have been given the green light by Mendip District Council.
The planning application for the building of four two-bedroom dwellings at 1-2 The Mermaid Inn, Tucker Street, Wells, was made by Sam James.
