Ten tries, lots of open play, indeed plenty to keep the crowd entertained when Wells beat Weston-super-Mare 2nds 39-24 on Saturday at the Portway Ground.
Wells eased into a 15-point lead after 20 minutes, thanks to an Aaron Cook penalty, Ben Knight with a scintillating break from a ruck scorching over for the first try of the game after 15 minutes and then Oskar White, back from injury, got the first of his two.
Will Greenham scored his first senior try five minutes before the break and Cook added two conversions.
In the meantime the visitors had kept plugging away with three tries of their own, plus a conversion. This left the half time score, Wells ahead by 22 points to 17.
The first 15 minutes of the second half were scoreless, but Al Knight, who has scored in every game to date, broke the deadlock with a typical try, using his power to get over the line.
Wells were now controlling play, despite the fact they were playing up the slope but they were playing the game in their opponent's half.
It was no surprise then when Aaron Cook stretched the lead with a try that he then converted.
The visitors briefly got back into the game with a converted try of their own, but right at the death Oskar White finished in style to seal the win and give Wells five points. Weston-super-Mare finished with four tries to earn themselves a bonus point.
This Saturday, Wells travel to Scotland Lane in Brislington to play Old Redciffians 2nds, while the Wells 2nd team, following their big win over local rivals Tor on Saturday, travel to Somerton.
Many thanks to Saturday's lunch sponsors, Pilgrim Financial Planning, and Perold Wines who also supplied a pre-lunch taster of that South Afican delicacy, Biltong.
