With a number of senior players sidelined through injury and illness Wells had no less than five of their Colts team in the match day squad for their home encounter with Bristol based St Bernadettes Old Boys.

These included Jack Wedmore making his first start and Tom Manship who debuted off the bench. Playing in the backrow they both made positive contributions in defence and attack.

There were also more positives to take away from the match. A great riposte to the heavy defeat against Oldfield the week before, this was also the first double of the season, having won away back in October and a welcome bonus point win.

After going behind to an early penalty from the visitors Wells hit back in the twenty fifth minute with a try from Sean Heggarty, his third of the season. Ten minutes later Aaron Cook kicked a penalty to give the home team a half time lead of eight points to three.

Despite being a man down following a Yellow Card, St Bernadettes got a try seven minutes into the half to level the scores. However Wells were gaining more and more control and a cross kick from Aaron Cook was perfect for Zac Nixon on the left wing to latch onto and score.

Ten minutes later Cook added a penalty and then after winning a turnover on the twenty two, the ball was whipped out to the left where Zac Nixon got his second.

The final and bonus point try came in the last ten minutes. Leo Hamblin hacked on a loose ball, chased after it himself, gathered and then showing great composure, despite this being his first senior try, he ran round between the posts to give an easy conversion.

This win keeps Wells comfortably in mid table at seventh place, having won ten of their eighteen matches to date.

Final score: Wells 30 – St Bernadettes Old Boys 8.

For the next couple of weeks Wells are away starting at Stothert & Pitt next Saturday, followed by Imperial on 22 February.
