WELLS Festival Of Film is paying tribute to local heroes for its fourth annual festival, as well as those on the big screen.

And one lucky Wells Voice reader can gain free entry for two to all seven films being shown this year if they win our exciting competition run in conjunction with Wells Film Centre.

Highlights of this year's festival, from April 26-28, include a pre-release screening of Pick Of The Litter, a documentary about five puppies going through guide dog training.

Local advocate Helen McCann will be at the screening with her guide dog Alfie and some of his friends.

Following reports that some businesses were turning guide dogs away, Wells Film Centre proprietor Sally Cooper said: "We wanted to show our support to Helen as well as show that guide dogs are always welcome at the Film Centre."

This year's outdoor screenings, which take place at The Bishop's Palace on April 26 and 27, will be of The Kid Who Would Be King (PG).

Some scenes in the film were filmed on location at Glastonbury Tor – which can be seen on the mythical Sword in the Stone Excalibur – Glastonbury Abbey and Chalice Well. "We are so excited to be showing this film," said Sally. "Not only is it filmed locally but it also has local fencers as extras."

Tickets to the outdoor screenings are £25 to include pre-show entertainment, a hog roast and drink and a goody bag to take home.

But there are two tickets up for grabs to one of the outdoor screening evenings and all six other films in the 2019 festival.

The Film Centre is running a separate competition which will see an Unsung Hero or inspirational person get the chance to have their story told on the big screen and win a Go-Pro Hero Camera.

Entrants should film a 90-second video and send it via email to the festival, telling them why a friend, family member or person they know is a 'Hero'.

The winner will also have their story made into a short film by local director Darren Cavanagh, which will then be shown at the award ceremony during the festival of film on April 28.
