Hold onto your plastic crowns, folks – the king's coronation is finally here and Wells will be hosting a grand celebration to mark the event.
From live music to art shows and fun days, Wells is the place to be for anyone who wants to experience the pomp and pageantry of a royal coronation.
So gather up your bunting and join us as we explore all the exciting events and activities taking place in Wells to mark this momentous occasion!

On May 5th, join the string superstar, Jennifer Pike, and pianist Martin Roscoe at Cedars Hall for a special programme featuring sonatas by Mozart and Grieg, plus an Elegy for Ukraine by her father, the composer Jeremy Pike.
Wells City Council and Wells Cathedral are collaborating to bring you a day full of excitement and entertainment in honour of King Charles III's coronation on May 7th.
The festivities will commence at noon at the Cathedral Green, with an opening ceremony by the Mayor of Wells, Councillor Stewart Cursley. A fun-filled day of activities and entertainment awaits visitors, including live music performances by several talented local bands such as the Wells Cathedral Song Squad, Mojo Working, Wells City Band, Blue School Folk Group, and Wells Cathedral School Jazz Combo. Families can also participate in games, craft activities, and indulge in delicious food and drink from various stalls.
The cloisters of Wells Cathedral will host a special exhibition for ten days as part of the Coronation celebrations, showcasing artworks in different mediums, such as paintings, photography, pottery, mosaics, sculpture, and embroidery. Visitors can relish live music performances by Wells Cathedral School Jazz Band and Blue School's Folk Orchestra while viewing the artwork. The exhibition will be open from 7 am to 6 pm, and visitors can enjoy the other festivities on the Wells Cathedral Green on the same day from 10 am to 6 pm. On May 7th, The Bishop's Palace and Gardens will also celebrate the coronation with a fun-filled day of activities for the whole family.
Visitors can enjoy crafting wildflower seed bombs in the community gardens, eco-glitter tattoos on the South Lawn, and a giant environmental trivial pursuit game on the Croquet Lawn. The Somerset Girlguiding group will host exciting events, including a quiz and treasure hunt throughout the grounds and showing how to turn tops into tote bags. The Bishop's Palace also offers a collection of fancy dress costumes and replica bishops' copes that visitors can try on and take pictures with.
