This November, the city of Wells is all set to offer a weekend filled with a vibrant array of events, including the highly anticipated carnival procession.

Kicking off the weekend's festivities is the Jennifer Bell Exhibition at Wells Cathedral, starting from 17th November and running until the 27th November. Renowned for her murals, portraits, and book illustrations, Jennifer Bell's exhibition explores spiritual themes through art, using metaphor and symbolism. Her work has garnered attention at venues such as Southwell Minster and Peterborough Cathedral and has been a regular feature at the Chaiya Awards.

The musical tempo rises with the Black and White Big Band Night at Binegar Memorial Hall on 18th November. The Shepton Mallet Big Band promises to take guests on a nostalgic journey through the 40s to the 70s. The evening is set to be a blend of music, dance, and good food, with an inviting party platter and a themed dress code.

Film enthusiasts will be drawn to the Wells and Mendip Museum for the 16mm Camera Filmmaking & Processing Workshops on the 18th and 25th November. Under the guidance of James Holcombe, participants will learn about using and processing the H16 Bolex clockwork 16mm camera.

For a soulful experience, the Going Gospel event at St Thomas' Church on the 18th invites everyone for a day of gospel singing, led by Emma Wheat and Alison Cooper. The event promises to be an uplifting day, complete with a buffet lunch and a prosecco afternoon tea.

Chris Jagger will be gracing Cedars Hall with his musical prowess on Saturday. Known for his eclectic mix of rock, country, and blues, Chris Jagger's concert is a must-attend for music enthusiasts. The concert promises an evening of captivating tunes and soulful lyrics.

For those who love handmade crafts and unique finds, the South West Craft Fairs at the Wells Town Hall is the place to be on Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. Local artisans and crafters will be showcasing their creations, offering a perfect opportunity to discover and purchase unique gifts and handmade items.

In the evening, Wells Cathedral will host The Lamplighter performance by Fight or Flight Creatives from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. This theatrical event offers a blend of drama and storytelling, providing an engaging and thought-provoking experience for attendees.

Adding to the weekend's charm is the eagerly awaited Wells Carnival on Friday, 17th November. The local clubs are set to dazzle with their unique themes; Globe CC will take spectators on a historic journey through London's taverns, Gorgons CC will portray dragon warlords, and Mendip Vale will pay tribute to the Glam rock era with Wham! Bam! Thank you Glam! Meanwhile, Cobra CC plans to transport the audience to the Wild West.

To catch the best views of the procession, which starts at 7 pm, attendees are advised to arrive early, as road closures begin at 6 pm and some even at 9 am. Wells is not just hosting events; it's creating a tapestry of cultural experiences. Whether it's getting lost in the world of art, swaying to the rhythms of the big band, immersing in gospel harmonies, or getting swept up in the carnival's vibrant procession, this weekend in Wells promises to be an unforgettable experience for all.
