Wells will mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day with a special beacon-lighting ceremony on Cathedral Green.

Wells City Council, The Royal British Legion and St Cuthbert Out Parish Council have come together to organise the event, and everyone is warmly invited to attend.

The ceremony will take place on Thursday 8 May, with people invited to gather on Cathedral Green from 9pm.

The beacon will be lit as part of national commemorations to remember the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945.

A spokesperson for Wells City Council said: "We would like to invite everyone to join us for this special event to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

"It will be a moment for the whole community to come together and remember those who served and sacrificed during the Second World War."
