Wells is poised to host its inaugural Pride celebration, Wells Pride 2024, this June, marking a historic milestone for the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies.

Spearheaded by Wells City Councillor Georgie Robbins, the event aims to offer an intimate, community-focused alternative to larger Pride festivals.

Councillor Robbins emphasised the importance of creating a more accessible event, particularly for those who prefer smaller gatherings or may feel overwhelmed by large crowds.

Set to be hosted around the recently reopened Bishop's Barn building, Wells Pride 2024 promises a line-up of queer musicians performing live music on the bandstand, along with local group Portway Music School.

The event will also feature a variety of stalls run by queer business owners, drag performances, and creative art activities, such as painting on canvases, providing an interactive and inclusive experience for attendees.

Councillor Robbins is keen on fostering a participative atmosphere, encouraging attendees to engage in activities like playing music alongside the live bands. For more details or queries, Cllr Robbins can be contacted at [email protected]. The event is set to be officially opened by the future Mayor of Wells, Jasmine Browne.

Since the event's announcement on social media, Cllr Robbins has expressed delight at the overwhelmingly positive response from the local community. Many residents, including those who have recently come out, have reached out to share their excitement and anticipation for the event.

Speaking about the event, she said: "I'm really excited to bring an event like this to Wells. I want people from all walks of life to feel like they belong in this City and I feel like it's going to be a really special day."

For more information, or to get involved with the event, contact Georgie Robbins on [email protected].
