Wells skatepark fundraiser hits £222k milestone
By Laura Linham 11th Feb 2026
Wells' bid for a new, free concrete skatepark has smashed through the £222,000 mark — bringing the dream closer to reality.
The Wells Skatepark Project has rallied huge support from artists, businesses, community events and national charities. A major moment came with the Mayor's Art on Decks auction, which raised £6,600 by selling unique artist-designed skateboards.
Local firms have stepped up too. Arcadia backed the build with a £250 'Mark on the Park' sponsorship, while Charlie Bigham's Staff Council chipped in £125. Events hosted by Soul Dough Woodfired Pizzas and Wookey Brewing Co have also pulled in donations.
Backing from big-name funders has followed. The David Laing Foundation, Blair Foundation and Glastonbury Festival all gave £5,000, with another £1,000 from Waitrose. The live Crowdfunder has now topped £22,000 thanks to over 500 individual donors.
With momentum building, campaigners have set their sights on £250,000 — the halfway point. That milestone will unlock access to bigger grants needed to complete the build.
The new skatepark will replace the city's tired old ramps with a top-spec facility shaped by local young people. It's designed to transform underused land into a free, welcoming space for skating, scooting and BMX — promoting fitness, friendship and outdoor fun for all ages.
