Wells police say they have stepped up work to prevent violence against women and girls across the city.

The Wells Neighbourhood Policing Team said its recent work has included beat surgeries in prominent locations, school visits and promotion of the Walk and Talk scheme. The local priority update was agreed and published on Tuesday, 15 July.

Officers said the beat surgeries were designed to give people accessible opportunities to seek advice, raise concerns and speak directly to the neighbourhood team.

Police have also visited local schools to share information about personal safety, healthy relationships and support services. The sessions are aimed at strengthening awareness among young people and encouraging early conversations around safeguarding.

The team is also promoting Walk and Talk, a scheme which encourages women and girls to meet officers while walking through their local area. The idea is to let women and girls point out places where they feel unsafe and discuss concerns directly with police.

Avon and Somerset Police said the scheme helps build trust, improve local safety and ensure policing is guided by the experiences of women and girls in the area.
