People in Wells living with Parkinson's are being invited to take part in a free summer event designed to help them stay active, try new things and meet others in a supportive environment.

The Sport Parkinson's Try-Athlon will return on Sunday 22 June 2025, running from 10am to 4pm, with a full day of inclusive activities and expert support for people living with Parkinson's, as well as their friends, family members and carers.

First held in 2022, the event is backed by Parkinson's UK and Cure Parkinson's, with the aim of helping people with Parkinson's challenge themselves both physically and mentally in a friendly, try-it-out setting.

The day will feature a wide range of walking sports including football, rugby, tennis, netball and cricket, as well as seated and standing activities such as shadow boxing, Nordic walking, rowing, cycling, golf, table tennis, Pilates, singing and dance.

An 'Expert Zone' will also run throughout the event, offering visitors the chance to connect with Parkinson's nurses, researchers, dieticians, reflexologists, tech firms and charities, as well as hear updates on the latest research, take part in live exercise sessions and join in with a karaoke band.

Sport Parkinson's said: "Join us for the Sport Parkinson's Try-Athlon 2025 where determination meets community, and every finish line is a victory! Whether you're competing, supporting, or just soaking up the atmosphere, this is more than a race—it's a celebration of strength, resilience, and the power of sport, activity and community to change lives."

Caroline Rassell, CEO at Parkinson's UK, said: "Being active can be one of the best ways to live well with Parkinson's and it's really exciting to see how successful the Try-Athlon has been for getting more people involved in new activities."

Helen Matthews, CEO of Cure Parkinson's, added: "Exercise and engagement engenders a positivity that is so important to everybody in the Parkinson's community, and it's this same positivity that drives us to search for a cure."
