Wells Meet the Sikhs event returns to Cathedral Green
By Laura Linham 21st Jul 2026
Wells Rotary Club has announced that Meet the Sikhs will return to Cathedral Green on Saturday, 22 August. The free intercultural event will run from noon until 4 pm in the heart of Wells.
The event will include Bhangra drumming and dancing, with visitors invited to learn from members of the Sikh community. There will also be turban tying, freshly cooked food and information about the charity work behind the event.
Wells Rotary President Sharon Haigh said the event began after the 2014 floods on the Somerset Levels, when Rotary worked with Khalsa Aid, the international disaster relief charity founded by Sikh humanitarian Ravi Singh. She said the friendship between the organisations had continued for many years, with both working together in disaster areas around the world.
"This wonderful, free, intercultural, entertaining event began back in 2014 with the terrible floods on the Levels where Rotary worked with the international disaster relief charity KhalsaAid founded by the Sikh Ravi Singh," said Ms Haigh. "The friendship and working together continued for many years with our two organisations working in disaster areas around the world."
Khalsa Aid was also honoured this month with the 2026 Lions International Humanitarian Award, recognising the organisation's contribution to humanitarian relief and disaster response across the globe. The Wells event will give visitors a chance to find out more about that work while enjoying an afternoon of music, food and culture on Cathedral Green.
The event is free to attend and open to the community. Organisers say the Sikhs taking part will be happy to teach people the dancing and drumming on the day.
