On Sunday, 15th September, the Mayor of Wells took part in a special service at St John's Church in Glastonbury to commemorate the Battle of Britain.

The service, organised by Group Captain Dick Whittingham and his team from the Mid-Somerset Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA), featured the playing of the Last Post, a two-minute silence, and the laying of wreaths in honour of those who served during the historic battle.

Two Cadets accompanied the Mayor from the 1955 City of Wells Squadron Air Training Corps, Sergeant Marshall-Smith and Corporal Colwill, who played a key role in the proceedings. Sergeant Marshall-Smith respectfully carried the wreath on behalf of the Mayor, while both cadets represented the City of Wells with great dignity and composure.

Their conduct left a strong impression on attendees, as the young cadets served as excellent ambassadors for the city's youth. The event provided an opportunity for the community to reflect on the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought in the Battle of Britain, with the Cadets' involvement reminding all present of the important role young people play in honouring this legacy.

Following the ceremony, wreaths were laid, marking the occasion with solemn respect as Wells joined the rest of the nation in remembering this pivotal moment in history.
