Seven Wells residents have been handed Civic Awards by the Mayor for their exceptional service to the city. The honours, which are issued at the discretion of the Mayor, were presented this week.

Andy Vallis was recognised for eight and a half years of dedication to Wells Voice, keeping residents informed and engaged with local life.

Bev Smith received an award for six years of fundraising for the Wells Skatepark Project — now the Mayor's official charity for 2025/26 — which has raised £210,000 to date.

Paddy O'Hagen and June McFarland were commended for their skateboard art project and charity auction, supporting the same cause. O'Hagen was also praised for his work with Wells Art Contemporary, the Food Festival and Wells SOUP.

Danny Williams was honoured for stepping in to offer Loaf Cafe as a display space for the skateboards, helping keep the auction on track.

Paul Tool was described as a "wonderful kind man" always ready to help make Wells a better place.

Ted Allen, Vice Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, received a Civic Award ahead of his retirement on Monday, 30 December. He was hailed for a lifetime of civic duty and will continue in voluntary roles across the county next year.
