A man from Wells has been sentenced to 28 months in prison after throwing objects at police officers and hurling a metal beer keg at a police vehicle during unrest in Bristol city centre.

Jack Nichols, 22, pleaded guilty to violent disorder for his actions on 3 August and was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday.

The incident took place when protesters and counter-protesters gathered near Castle Park in central Bristol. What began as a demonstration soon escalated into disorder, with Nichols playing a key role in the violence.

CCTV footage and body-worn video from officers showed Nichols among the crowd at multiple locations, including Castle Park, Bristol Bridge, and Redcliffe Roundabout. He was recorded throwing objects at police officers, with one object striking a police dog handler. Nichols was also seen throwing a metal beer keg at a police vehicle during the chaos.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Herbert, commenting on the case, said, "Like too many people on that day, Nichols chose to behave in a way that was completely unacceptable. And as many others already have, he has now received a prison sentence."

Nichols is the 33rd person to be sentenced following the disorder in Bristol. Many others involved in the violence have already faced significant legal consequences, as the police continue to bring those responsible to justice.

The August unrest left a significant mark on the city, and authorities have been working to ensure that those involved are held accountable for their actions. Nichols' sentence underscores the serious consequences of participating in violent acts, especially against law enforcement.

The investigation into the events of that day is ongoing, and more individuals are expected to face charges in connection with the disorder.
