Wells Carnival organisers are seeking volunteers to support this year's event on 15 November. With rising costs and static collection income, more people are needed to help collect donations from spectators and assist with counting after the event.

Those taking part can help preserve Somerset's historic carnival tradition, with groups and organisations receiving 40 per cent of the total they collect, and additional payment for helping with the count.

Assistant Chief Marshal Nigel Clarke is also looking for volunteers to marshal the carnival route. Full training will be provided, and marshals will work in teams from 4.30pm to around 11pm, ensuring the public stays safe during the procession.

The team is also on the lookout for someone with radio communication experience to man the command centre, capable of responding quickly to any emerging situations.

To help with collections, email Tony Frazier at [email protected]. For marshalling, contact Nigel Clarke at [email protected].
