Wells launches first Kindness Week with appeal for groups to join
By Laura Linham 7th Oct 2026
Wells is preparing for its first Kindness Week, with local organisations planning everything from free flowers around the city to cleaning bus shelters.
The week runs from Monday, 9 November, to Sunday, 15 November. Launched by the Bishop's Palace, it will celebrate the support already being offered across Wells and encourage more people to get involved. Wells Community Network
Wells Community Network is inviting charities, schools, businesses and community groups to contribute an activity or act of kindness. It will bring their plans together in a calendar on its website.
Groups do not need to organise a large event. Suggestions include making bunting with kind messages, helping another organisation, writing a letter of appreciation or highlighting the work they already do throughout the year.
Several organisations have already set out their plans. Wells Library will provide bookmarks and positive messages for visitors to decorate, either to give to someone or leave inside a book for another reader to find.
The Bishop's Palace will leave flowers and plants grown in its gardens as gifts around Wells. It also plans to share a free calendar of ideas for acts of kindness.
Wells Bus Users Group will clean bus shelters, while the 1st Wells Guides and Rangers will prepare food to donate to organisations in the city. Wells Community Network will contact people it has supported previously to check how they are doing and whether they need further help.
The network says there is still time for other organisations to join in, with ideas and resources available to those taking part. Contributions can include a new activity during the week or a chance to showcase existing community work.
Anyone planning an event or act of kindness can contact Miriama at [email protected]. Details of the programme are available on the Wells Kindness Week page.
