Wells Jesse Window named fourth in nation’s favourite stained glass vote
By Laura Linham 6th Feb 2026
Wells Cathedral's Jesse Window has been named fourth in a nationwide search to find the Nation's Favourite Stained Glass Window, organisers have confirmed. The Association of English Cathedrals announced the result in a Divine Light campaign update sent on Friday, 6 February 2026.
The organisers said the public vote has now closed and the winner is the East Window at Carlisle Cathedral. They also confirmed the rest of the top five as: York Minster's Great East Window (second), St Albans Cathedral's Rose Window (third), Wells Cathedral's Jesse Window (fourth) and Gloucester Cathedral's Great East Window (fifth).
The Association of English Cathedrals said thousands took part in the campaign. Vote totals and a full ranking were not included in the campaign update shared with subscribers.
For Wells, the placing puts the city's cathedral — a major visitor draw in the heart of Somerset — in the national top five for stained glass, alongside some of England's best-known cathedral windows.
Wells Cathedral is currently the focus of other major heritage work, including the Wells Cathedral organ restoration underway. You can also see what's coming up in the city via What's on in Wells this week.
