Police in Wells have launched extra patrols after a spike in rural thefts left officers urging people to lock up equipment and keep an eye out for anything unusual.
The neighbourhood team says thieves have been targeting outbuildings, machinery and isolated properties, with several incidents reported across the Wells area in recent weeks.
Officers are now carrying out more patrols through villages, farms and remote homes in an effort to deter crime and reassure residents.
A spokesperson for the Wells Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "We've seen a rise in rural thefts around Wells and we're asking people to take simple steps to protect their property. Lock away tools and machinery, mark anything that can't be stored inside, and if you spot something suspicious, tell us. Your information helps us respond quickly."
Police are also reminding residents to keep gates secure, use strong locks on sheds and outbuildings, and register valuable kit on national databases.
Anyone with information can contact police on 101. In an emergency, call 999.
