Fresh planning applications have been submitted covering detailed work involved in the conversion of a former Wells pub into a boutique guest house. The applications for Sherston House in Priory Road were received on Thursday, 20 August and are awaiting decisions.

The submissions relate to existing planning and listed building consents for changing the former Sherston Inn from a pub into a boutique guest house, along with alterations and the replacement of an extension with a new day room. The main planning consent is referenced as 2024/0828/FUL, with a separate listed building consent under reference 2024/1404/LBC.

The latest applications seek approval of details required by conditions attached to those consents. They cover joinery details, interior treatments and finishes, methods of attachment and a method statement for opening-up works.

Drawings submitted with the listed building application include floor plans, section and elevation drawings, orangery joinery details and sash window joinery details. Both of the new applications remain under consideration and no decision has yet been issued.

The Priory Road building has been the subject of redevelopment plans for several years. Wells Nub News first reported proposals for its conversion in 2021, when plans included retaining five guest bedrooms and replacing the former skittle alley with facilities including a pool and gym.

The latest submissions do not reopen the principle of the approved change of use. They deal with details required under conditions attached to the existing permissions before particular elements of the work can proceed.

Somerset Council will now consider applications 2026/1601/APP and 2026/1614/APP.
