Wells driver warned after revving car 'for fun'
By Laura Linham 19th Mar 2026
Officers said they were approached while on bike patrol in Wells by a local business owner reporting ongoing problems with vehicles travelling through the High Street at speed and creating excessive noise.
Police said a car was located moments later in the High Street, where the driver was allegedly revving the engine repeatedly and causing a disturbance to members of the public.
According to officers, the driver admitted he was revving the engine "for fun". A Section 59 Warning Notice was then issued.
Police said anti-social driving causes distress, disrupts local businesses and leaves people feeling less safe in the town centre. Officers added that action would continue to be taken when incidents are reported.
Anyone who witnesses dangerous or anti-social driving in Wells is being urged by police to report it via 101 or through the force's online reporting channels.
