Wells crime hotspots exposed: car parks, clubs and High Street

In August, Wells faced crime surges in High Street and city centre, logging dozens of offences.

Wells' parking areas, High Street and nightlife venues saw the most crime in August, with dozens of offences reported across the city's busiest streets.

A total of 11 incidents were logged in the Market Place, while the High Street saw 7 reports — including suspected shoplifting, anti-social behaviour and assaults. Priory Road clocked eight crimes, mostly involving violence and public disorder.

City centre taking the hit

Other areas with five or more incidents included:

  • Priest Row – 6
  • Tucker Street – 5
  • Wheeler Grove – 5

Figures from Avon and Somerset Police show violence and sexual offences made up nearly half of all reported crime in Wells last month.

  • Bus station: Bike theft, arson, disorder
  • Petrol station: Criminal damage, vehicle crime
  • Town Hall: Anti-social behaviour

Police: "We're watching key hotspots"

A police spokesperson said: "We use real-time data to monitor hotspot locations and direct patrols accordingly. Public reports help us take action."
