Wells City Carnival seeks new volunteer marshals
By Laura Linham 6th Mar 2026
Wells City Carnival organisers are recruiting volunteers to join their marshaling team, which helps organise the city's annual carnival and supports other Somerset events throughout the year.
The team plays a key role in marshalling Wells City Carnival, ensuring the procession runs safely while coordinating with visiting carnival clubs and volunteers.
Members also support other Somerset carnivals through a long-standing "tit-for-tat" arrangement, where groups assist one another with stewarding and event safety.

Outside carnival season, the team also helps marshal and steward a range of local events, raising funds to support the running of Wells City Carnival.
Organisers say the group is keen to welcome new volunteers and offer residents the chance to meet new people while supporting a long-standing Somerset tradition.
Rob Hale, chairman of Wells City Carnival, said the team is open to anyone looking for something to do in their spare time.
Those interested in joining the marshaling team can contact organisers through the Wells City Carnival website.
The carnival committee said team leaders are qualified and experienced, and they are looking forward to welcoming new members.
