Wells Cathedral is preparing to host a special event this spring featuring Peter Walker's celebrated Peace Doves installation and is seeking volunteers from the community.

Scheduled from Friday, 26 April to Saturday, 8 June 2024, the exhibition will display thousands of paper doves suspended above the Nave, each inscribed with messages of peace, hope, and love from visitors.

In anticipation of this significant exhibition, Wells Cathedral invites locals and visitors alike to participate in the installation process. A crucial aspect of the preparation involves assembling the paper doves. This task is straightforward yet time-consuming, requiring the wings of thousands of doves to be slotted and stapled together.

To support this substantial effort, the Cathedral calls for volunteers willing to dedicate their time to help realise this artwork.

This initiative presents a unique opportunity for individuals to contribute to a project that symbolises peace and communal spirit, making the final artwork uniquely representative of Wells and its community.

Volunteers interested in joining this inspiring project are encouraged to contact the Cathedral directly by emailing [email protected] to register their interest.

The Cathedral has established a dedicated space in the North Transept for volunteers to gather and inscribe their messages on the doves, further personalising the installation to the Wells community.
