Wells Cathedral has invited worshippers, visitors and local residents to join its programme of Lent, Holy Week and Easter services, culminating in Easter Sunday celebrations on Sunday, 5 April. The cathedral said the season will include worship, music and reflection from Lent through to Easter Day.
Among the Easter Sunday services are Holy Communion at 8.30am, Festal Matins at 9.30am, the Cathedral Eucharist at 11am and Festal Evensong at 3pm. The cathedral said Easter Day music will be sung by the Cathedral Choir.
Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday, 29 March, with Holy Communion, a Cathedral Eucharist with Palm Procession and Choral Evensong. Services continue through the week, including the Diocesan Chrism Eucharist on Tuesday, 31 March, the Solemn Eucharist of the Last Supper on Maundy Thursday, 2 April, and the Three Hours' Devotion on Good Friday, 3 April.
The guest preacher throughout Holy Week will be The Reverend Canon Dr Kate Bruce, who is due to preach at the marked services. The cathedral is also continuing its Stations of the Cross on Fridays in Lent at 12.05pm in the Nave, along with a Lent talks series on prayer on Wednesday evenings.
In its invitation, the cathedral said: "Whether you're discovering the Cathedral for the first time, a returning visitor or a regular worshipper, you are warmly invited to join us as we journey from Lent through Holy Week, to the splendour and light of Easter Day."
