The Wells community is set to come together for an enriching programme of events at Wells Cathedral this November, marking both Remembrance and the beginning of the festive season.

First on the agenda is the Act of Remembrance on Armistice Day, Saturday 11 November at 11.00 a.m. Residents are encouraged to gather at the War Memorial in the North Transept for a short ceremony, a tradition that has seen increased attendance over the years.

Following this, on Sunday 12 November, a special Remembrance Sunday Eucharist will commence at 10.30 a.m. Music by Elgar, Howells, and James MacMillan will enhance an Act of Remembrance at 11.00 a.m. that will be incorporated into the Cathedral Eucharist.

On the same day, at 3.00 p.m., the Cathedral Choir will present a devotional performance of Duruflé's Requiem. Accompanied by readings, the service will also feature the much-anticipated 'Poppy drop'. Admission is free, and there will be a retiring collection for the Poppy Appeal and Wells Cathedral.

In addition to the Remembrance events, the Cathedral will also host a range of concerts and exhibitions. This includes 'Threads through Creation', a visually striking exhibition running from 18 October to 16 November. William Drakett will perform Schubert's Winterreise on 4 November at 7.00 p.m., and a lunchtime organ recital will be given by David Bednall on 9 November at 1.05 p.m. Among other events, Wells Cathedral Oratorio Society will present a variety of concerts including Handel's Messiah on Saturday 9 December at 7.00 p.m.

In a statement, a representative from the Cathedral said, "We look forward to welcoming everyone to our range of events this November. It's an opportunity for the community to come together in reflection, celebration, and anticipation of the season ahead."
