With the Wells Carnival fast approaching on Friday, 15th November, organisers have put out an urgent call for more volunteers to step up and help keep the beloved event safe and running smoothly.

The carnival is a key part of Somerset's Guy Fawkes Circuit and traditionally attracts thousands of spectators from across the region.

Although the committee has already secured a number of marshals, they are still seeking additional volunteers to ensure the event can run without a hitch. Chief Marshal Nigel Clarke stressed the importance of having enough hands on deck, stating: "Our marshals are vital to maintaining safety and creating a positive experience for all. Without their dedication, events like this simply couldn't happen."

Volunteers will be expected to work from 4:30pm until approximately 11pm, helping to keep the public safe and ensuring the procession route is clear. They will work in designated sections as part of a team led by experienced marshals who will handle any incidents that arise. All marshals will receive training prior to the event to ensure they are equipped for the role.

As a gesture of thanks, volunteers will be treated to free fish and chips from Tuckers before the event kicks off—a small token of appreciation for their time and effort.

Nigel Clarke is urging anyone interested in getting involved, whether they are seasoned volunteers or newcomers, to contact him via email at [email protected] as soon as possible. "This carnival is a tradition that brings the community together, and we need people to help us make it as safe and enjoyable as possible," he added.

The committee is also keen to recruit additional collectors to help raise funds for the carnival, which relies heavily on public donations. All profits from the event go towards supporting local charities and community groups, making volunteering a great way to give back to the town.

The Wells Carnival is a much-anticipated event in the town's calendar, featuring a spectacular procession of illuminated carts, performers, and floats, and it serves as a highlight of the annual Guy Fawkes Carnival Circuit. Organisers are hopeful that the community will rally to support the event, ensuring its continued success.

For more information on how to get involved, reach out to Nigel Clarke at [email protected].
