As Wells carnival approaches, Wells' local carnival clubs have unveiled their show-stopping themes, ready to bring excitement and artistry to this year's festivities. With carts inspired by pirates, industrial America, supernatural academies, and American football, the Wells clubs are pulling out all the stops to create unforgettable displays.

COBRA Carnival Club – 'Kaitiora (Pirates)'

Cobra Carnival Club's 2024 cart, Kaitiora (Pirates), promises a thrilling adventure on the high seas, featuring legendary pirates, mythical sea creatures, and hidden treasures. Building on the success of last year's Wild West-inspired cart Leaving Lonesome, Cobra's latest entry blends myth with maritime history, inviting spectators on a journey through treacherous waters.

The club, based in Tramways, Wells, spends the year raising funds to support its work, stewarding events and offering children's inflatables at fêtes and parties. To join Cobra or learn more, contact them at 07503 746571 or on Facebook at "Cobra Carnival Club."

Globe Carnival Club – 'Henry Ford's Model T Production Line'

Taking a nostalgic leap back to 1908, Globe Carnival Club's 2024 cart celebrates the ingenuity of Henry Ford's assembly line. Following on from last year's theme, Those Were The Days, which brought tavern scenes to life, this year's entry showcases the evolution of the automotive industry and the spirit of teamwork, echoing Ford's famous quote: "Coming together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success."

Globe CC extends special thanks to its 2024 sponsors, including Twilight Zone, Wells Cathedral School, Burns The Bread, and Strawberry Field Park. Those interested in joining the club can contact them at [email protected] or follow them on Facebook, Globe Carnival Club.

Gorgons Carnival Club – 'Nevermore Academy'

Inspired by Netflix's Wednesday, Gorgons Carnival Club's 2024 cart is themed around the fictional Nevermore Academy, a haven for outcasts such as vampires, werewolves, sirens, and gorgons. The cart's scene will be set at the academy's End-of-Season Ball, a masquerade for misfits, with a dark remix of Lady Gaga's Bloody Mary providing the soundtrack. Following the carnival season, Gorgons CC will continue its tradition of spreading festive cheer with a Christmas cart touring Wells to delight local children.

Based at Wells Football Club, Gorgons CC welcomes new members, especially those interested in helping with fundraising and building. Contact Shelly Ford at 07894 078999 or reach out on Facebook.

Mendip Vale Carnival Club – 'Super Bowl 24'

Returning to a fan-favourite from 2007, Mendip Vale Carnival Club's Super Bowl 24 cart will bring the energy of American football to the carnival, with cheerleaders, a marching band, and players on the field. This high-energy display embodies the thrill of the big game, and club members have worked tirelessly to recreate the atmosphere of a Super Bowl for Somerset audiences.

Mendip Vale CC raises funds year-round through stewarding and events to participate in all seven local carnivals. The club is always open to new members – interested individuals can reach out via their Facebook page.

With their dedication and creativity, Wells' carnival clubs are set to bring another season of wonder and excitement to Somerset's streets. Each club has invested countless hours into their entries, and spectators can look forward to a spectacular display of lights, sound, and intricate artistry at this year's carnival.
