Businesses in Wells city centre are reminding shoppers they are open as usual — despite ongoing roadworks in the area.

Work is currently underway to fit new gas pipes in parts of the city centre, with temporary road closures affecting Queen Street, Lower High Street and Market Street.

But traders say it is still very much business as usual, and are encouraging customers to continue to shop local during the disruption.

Wells City Council has also issued a reminder that shops, cafes and businesses in the affected areas are open as normal.

A spokesperson for Wells City Council said: "Please remember the road might be closed but all the shops on Queen Street, Lower High Street and Market Street are open as usual.

"Thank you for supporting our local businesses."
