What’s on in Wells this Easter: trails, towers, falcons and chocolate in all the right places

What's On in Wells is brought to you by our sponsors, Studio24 in Wells, Sandersons Wells and Wells Festival of Literature.
Wells is going full spring mode this Easter, with palace gardens to explore, falcons to spot, and egg trails to keep the kids moving between chocolate fixes.
Whether you’re after peace and pageantry or just trying to wear the children out before Monday, the city has you covered — and yes, there are caves and stilt walkers involved, because it wouldn’t be Somerset without a bit of the unexpected.
FRIDAY 18 APRIL
Fancy a bit of classical music with your pint? Pilton's village pub is hosting a Good Friday performance of Haydn's The Seven Last Words of the Cross by the Breathe Ensemble, featuring Royal Ballet concertmaster Magnus Johnston. It's reflective, moving, and happening in the same room someone probably watched the Grand National in last weekend. Full details here
From the sacred to the sweaty — Street's going loud. Resident DJ Jamie Mac is on deck spinning drum and bass all night at the Street Inn (or at least until 11pm — there's a strict no-entry-after-that rule). Entry is free, the vibe is heavy, and you might want earplugs. More info here

You'll find everything from mid-century furniture to vintage vinyl, weird garden statues, clothes, books, and stuff you definitely don't need but will somehow leave with. Dogs welcome, food stalls aplenty, wear comfy shoes. Market info
Wells is doing Easter in style — trails through palace gardens, crafts, and plenty to keep the under-10s distracted while you pretend not to be jealous of their chocolate haul. Running all weekend at the Bishop's Palace.
Expect stilt walkers, pirate golf, circus shows and a big cave full of other families wondering why they didn't just stay in. It's chaotic, but it's peak Wookey Hole and part of the charm.

STILL NOT ENOUGH?

And if you're after church services, Glastonbury's St John's, Wells Cathedral, Shepton's parish church and Street's Holy Trinity are all holding Holy Week and Easter Day services — check individual listings for times.
And if all else fails, just go for a walk, eat a crème egg, and pretend you don't have five loads of washing to do on Tuesday.
Happy Easter, everyone!
