Wells-based burger van Fattso has earned a spot as a finalist in the National Burger Awards' Champion of Champions competition, set to take place in London on September 3. This special one-off event, created to mark the 10th anniversary of the awards, will see 30 past winners and top chefs compete for the ultimate title.

Fattso, which operates out of the car park at the Cheddar Valley Inn, has quickly become a local favourite since its inception in 2020. Founded by local lads Charlie Morris-Adams, Joe Watson, and Hamish McDonald during lockdown, Fattso has carved out a niche in Wells with its LA Smash burgers, earning the title of third-best burger at the 2023 National Burger Awards.

Charlie Morris-Adams, co-founder of Fattso, reflected on their rapid rise: "It was a crazy time when we opened. People were queuing all around the block. In a cool, little city like Wells, you can really make your mark."

The competition in London will bring together heavyweights like two-time winners Bleecker and El Perro Negro, along with other popular names such as Danny's Burgers and The Beefy Boys. The event will focus solely on each finalist's signature burger, with the pressure on as everything hinges on one recipe.

Genna Ash-Brown, editor of Dine Out magazine, which hosts the event, expressed excitement about the upcoming competition: "We had to do something to celebrate the National Burger Awards' 10th birthday. But, wow, we are excited about how the Champion of Champions has come together. This unique burger extravaganza is going to be off the charts."
