Wells-based expert launches new online training courses to support parents and carers

A Wells-based therapeutic play expert has launched a new series of online training courses designed to help parents, carers, and professionals support children and young people facing challenges such as self-harm, social anxiety, and attachment issues.

Neuro-Dramatic-Play, developed by globally recognised dramatherapist Dr Sue Jennings PhD, is an attachment-based approach that uses play as a tool for building trust, security, and emotional resilience.

The upcoming Whistlestop webinars, running from March to June, aim to introduce parents and professionals to the principles of Neuro-Dramatic-Play and how it can be used to support children with mental health and neurodiversity challenges.

Dr Jennings, who is based in Wells, has pioneered the use of play therapy worldwide, integrating arts, storytelling, and creativity into therapeutic practice. She said:

"Parents and carers of children living with anxiety and neurodiversity challenges often feel powerless, as if they lack the expertise and professional knowledge to support their child. The Neuro-Dramatic-Play courses deliver a practical insight into the life-changing benefits of this unique therapeutic practice, giving parents confidence and valuable skills to feel more empowered in their day-to-day parenting."

The two-hour online courses cost £45 per person and cover key topics including self-harm, social anxiety, and attachment. They are open to parents, foster carers, adoptive parents, teachers, therapists, social workers, and those working in child mental health and education.

Upcoming course dates:

  • Neuro-Dramatic-Play and self-harm
  • Wednesday 19 March, 6–8pm
  • Friday 21 March, 9–11am
  • Neuro-Dramatic-Play and attachment

The courses are also valuable for professionals working in child psychotherapy, paediatrics, play and arts therapy, education, and child psychology, as well as those in training or post-graduate study.

More than 5,000 parents, carers, and professionals worldwide have completed Neuro-Dramatic-Play training since its launch in 2011, following the publication of Dr Jennings' book Healthy Attachments and Neuro-Dramatic-Play, which has been translated into multiple languages.

The courses are available to book via Eventbrite for £45 per person, including the booking fee.
