Wells will host its annual All Souls service at Mendip Hospital Cemetery on Sunday, 2 November 2025, 3 pm, with the public invited to remember the lives of nearly 3,000 patients and staff buried there.

The service will take place at the cemetery chapel on Hooper Avenue and is organised by the Friends of Mendip Hospital Cemetery.

The Grade II-listed site served the former Somerset and Bath County Pauper Lunatic Asylum — later Mendip Hospital — and was used for burials from the 1870s until 1962. Many graves remain unmarked.

Visitors will be welcomed with tea and biscuits following the service.

The Friends group continues to maintain the site, promote awareness of its history, and ensure its long-term preservation. The cemetery was granted listed status by Historic England in 2024.
