Wells residents are being encouraged to join the Community Speed Watch team in a bid to improve road safety and tackle speeding in the area.

The volunteer-led initiative, supported by Avon and Somerset Police, aims to reduce accidents, raise awareness of dangerous driving, and improve the quality of life for local communities.

Community Speed Watch groups operate across the county, using speed monitoring equipment to identify vehicles exceeding the limit. While volunteers do not issue fines, their reports help police take action against repeat offenders and highlight problem areas.

A spokesperson for the initiative said: "Speeding remains a major concern for many communities, and volunteers play a vital role in making roads safer for everyone. No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to help."

Volunteering with the scheme offers residents the chance to connect with their community, meet new people, and make a real difference to road safety in Wells.

Anyone interested in getting involved can find out more at Avon and Somerset Police's website.
