The A39 linking Wells with Glastonbury, is set to operate under a one-way traffic system for nearly three weeks starting at the end of May.

This temporary - but significant - traffic alteration comes as Wales and West Utilities undertake the replacement of an old metallic gas main with a new plastic one.

Commencing on Tuesday, May 28, and expected to continue until Friday, June 14, the one-way restriction will affect the stretch from 176 metres northeast of Wand Road junction up to the A39 Strawberry Way Roundabout.

Drivers have already been experiencing delays due to temporary traffic lights that have been operational for several weeks.

These will remain in place until Friday, May 17, after which the one-way system will be enforced.

Somerset Council advises motorists that the one-way system will only be active when indicated by traffic signs.

Motorists travelling through the area are urged to plan their journeys in advance to accommodate the expected disruptions.
