The Wurzels have reassured fans they're "well rested, refreshed and ready to go" after sun and heat exhaustion forced them to cut their Wells performance short at the weekend.

The Somerset band had been performing at Party in the Palace in Wells on Saturday 12 July when both Pete Budd and Tommy Banner, both aged 85, became unwell due to the intense heat. Temperatures had soared past 31C, with the stage facing directly into the sun and little air movement.

Pete had to leave before the end of the gig, while Tommy later said he felt dizzy with sunstroke after coming off stage.

Posting an update on Facebook, the band confirmed they had "fully recovered" and thanked fans for their messages of concern.

"Up on stage there was no air moving and we were facing straight into the direct, unobstructed rays of a very strong sun," they wrote.

Tommy also thanked security and medical staff at the event: "Personally, I have to say a big thank you to the security lads who looked after me so well after they took me into a cool room behind the stage, and then to the nurse, I think called Laura, all of them getting my temperature back down to normal before being allowed to go home in our bus."

Organisers at The Bishop's Palace said they were still recovering from "an unforgettable couple of days of dancing, sunshine, fantastic live music and throwback classics", and thanked all the performers, including Seth Lakeman, 3 Daft Monkeys, Mad Dog Mcrea, Wells City Band and 21st Century ABBA.
