Wells offers diverse events: from the Bath & West Food & Drink Festival's British Cheese Awards to folk gigs, comedy shows, astrology courses, and a Messier Marathon.

What's On in Wells is brought to you by our sponsors, Studio24 in Wells, Sandersons Wells, Crossfit Mendip, Wells Festival of Literature and Wookey Hole Caves.

Whether you fancy an intimate folk gig, an evening of belly laughs, or staring deep into the mysteries of the universe, Wells and the surrounding area have got something for you this week. Here's what's coming up:

If your idea of a good time involves stuffing your face with top-tier cheese, then the Bath & West Food & Drink Festival (22–23 March) is calling your name. The British Cheese Awards are front and centre, so expect all the finest fromage on show. Plus, there's a bierkeller-style beer celebration and expert talks on food and drink pairings—because obviously, cheese needs a good pint. Tickets are just £6, kids under 15 get in free! Find out more here.

Poetry, but make it eco-friendly. This free workshop (22 March, Shepton Mallet Library) is all about turning "found" words from newspapers and books into unique poetry. No experience required – just show up, get creative, and leave feeling like a literary genius. Spaces are limited, so book ahead. More info here.

If your life is already a joke but you'd prefer to laugh about someone else's for a change, head to The Art Bank on 22 March. Headliners Raymond & Mr Timpkins bring two decades of chaos, while Wayne the Weird and a line-up of other acts keep the laughs coming. Book early and save 30%. Details here.

Folk music fans, this one's for you. The Woolverstones bring their critically acclaimed alternative folk to Glastonbury Assembly Rooms on 21 March. They've been called a "Folk Masterpiece" (and we all know folk critics don't throw praise around lightly). If you want to catch them before they blow up, grab tickets here.

If you'd rather map out your cosmic destiny than eat cheese or laugh at stand-up, the Silver Spiral Astrology Course kicks off in Glastonbury on 22 March. Learn how to read birth charts and channel the wisdom of the cosmos. Future star priestesses/priestesses of Avalon, this one's for you. Find out more here.

Ever wanted to spot as many galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters as possible in one night? The Wells & Mendip Astronomers are attempting just that at their annual Messier Marathon on 22 March. If the weather plays nice, you'll get to look through telescopes; if not, you'll still get a night of stunning astro-photography. Tickets: £5 for adults, students £3.50, families £7.50. Details here.

So, will it be cheese and craft beer, star-gazing, or laughing until your sides hurt? Let us know what you're up to!
