Wells is the perfect destination for festive fun this weekend, with events ranging from the bustling ‘Christmas in Wells’ Market to magical music performances and even an illuminated tractor run. Whether you’re shopping for unique gifts, enjoying live music, or simply soaking up the seasonal atmosphere, there’s no shortage of ways to celebrate in the city.
Friday night kicks off with plenty of festive cheer. Head to Wells Cathedral for The Bevan Family Consort, where renowned sopranos Mary and Sophie Bevan will lead an evening of magical Christmas music. If laughter is your thing, The Comedy Cavern at Wookey Hole Caves promises a night of toe-curling gags, headlined by Glenn Moore. Over at The Assembly Rooms in Glastonbury, Sektor 7 offers a night of goth, synthwave, and hard industrial techno.
If you're in the mood for live music, Christmas Party Night at Studio 24 in Wells features PRP Contemporary Voices, The Bristol Groove, and Choir Jam delivering festive pop, jazz, and funk. The evening wraps up with a DJ set from Magnus Denyer, spinning cheesy classics for a lively end to the night.
Saturday morning brings festive shopping and crafting opportunities. The 'Christmas in Wells' Market will feature over 100 stalls across Wells Market Place and Bishop's Palace Green. At Wells Museum, the Christmas Craft Market offers handmade gifts, a free decoration-making workshop, and free entry to the museum.
Got something broken? Head to Glastonbury Repair Café at St. Benedict's Church, where you can learn how to repair your items while enjoying tea and cake. Or, if you're feeling creative, join the festive Wreath-Making Workshop at Kilmersdon Village Hall, where you'll leave with a handmade wreath to proudly display at home.
Music lovers are spoilt for choice. The Budapest Café Orchestra brings gypsy and folk-inspired music to Cedars Hall, while Glastonbury Brass performs festive favourites at St. John's Church. Families can also enjoy Christingle Re-imagined in Cranmore, where the Christmas story is retold through symbols and crafting.
Sunday's highlight is the Wells & Glastonbury YFC Illuminated Tractor Run. Starting at Worthy Farm at 6:30pm, the parade of decorated tractors and 4x4s will travel through Pilton, Shepton Mallet, Glastonbury, and beyond, raising funds for Teenage Cancer Trust.
For a formal festive feast, the Royal Air Forces Association Christmas Lunch at Wells Golf Club offers a two- or three-course meal with a Loyal Toast.
With so much to see and do, from comedy and crafting to festive markets and live music, this weekend has something for everyone. Don't miss out—get into the Christmas spirit and enjoy all that Wells and the surrounding towns have to offer!
