Wells City Council will decide the future of local services at a meeting on Thursday, 19 December, following months of negotiations over the devolution of responsibilities from Somerset Council.

The meeting, set to take place at the Town Hall, will see members vote on whether to take over the running of various services, including grass cutting, hedge and tree management, play areas, litter and dog waste bins, public toilets, CCTV, and other facilities across the city.

The devolution process has been shaped by feedback from residents gathered during the public consultation in September. The priorities expressed included keeping litter bins, public toilets, and markets under local control, with CCTV ranked as the lowest priority.

Wells City Council has worked to assess both the operational and financial implications of managing these services locally. Final decisions will be made in time to meet the council's January 2025 budget-setting deadline.

Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting on 19 December to stay informed and hear the council's plans. Full details of the meeting, including the agenda, are available on the council's website at www.wells.gov.uk/meetings.

For questions about the devolution process, contact the council's Devolution Officer at [email protected].
