Wells Festival of Literature to host wine expert Oz Clarke
By Laura Linham 17th Jun 2026
Wine expert Oz Clarke will be raising a glass at Wells Festival of Literature later this year when he appears in the city to discuss his new book. Clarke will speak at the festival on Wednesday, 21 October, with tickets due to go on general sale on Monday, 24 August.
His latest book, A Vine is a Wild Thing, draws on a lifetime of tasting, travelling and storytelling. Subtitled A Wine-Lover's Guide to Grapes, Growers and Gloriously Good Bottles, it is due to be published in October.
Clarke is one of the UK's best-known wine writers and broadcasters, with a long career helping audiences better understand and enjoy wine. He has appeared on numerous radio and television programmes, including the long-running BBC food show Food & Drink.
Before becoming a household name in wine, Clarke also built a career as an actor. He worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company and appeared in several West End productions.
His screen credits include roles in the 1978 film Superman and in Superman II. He also sang the baritone role, and Sam Gamgee's song, in the BBC adaptation of The Lord of the Rings.
Tickets for his Wells Festival of Literature appearance go on sale to the public on Monday, 24 August. Priority booking for Friends of the Festival opens a week earlier, on Monday, 17 August.
More information about becoming a Friend or Supporter is available through the Wells Festival of Literature website. The festival brings authors, broadcasters and public figures to Wells each year for talks, discussion and literary events.
