BBC Somerset's Charlie Taylor joins author Simon Kuper to discuss football's role in shaping the modern world

Two of football's most passionate commentators will come together at this year's Wells Festival of Literature to explore how the sport has changed the world.

BBC Radio Somerset sports presenter Charlie Taylor will appear alongside journalist and author Simon Kuper on Sunday 20 October to discuss Kuper's latest book The World at My Feet.

The book recounts Kuper's journey through nine World Cups, tracing how football has evolved since its early days to become a powerful global force.

Kuper, who has attended every World Cup since 1990, uses his experiences to reflect on football's transformation—from a semi-professional contest in 1930 Montevideo to a billion-pound industry marked by globalisation, corporate ownership and controversy.

The author's account is rooted in real moments from stadiums, pubs, front rooms and streets around the world, capturing how the sport has mirrored social, political and economic shifts over the decades.

Tickets for the event are selling quickly. Full details are available via the Wells Festival of Literature website.
