Wells is never short of a good day out, but this week it’s going full range — from sublime choral music in the cathedral to Freecycle chaos, thought-provoking lectures and even a cider barn tour courtesy of the RAF.

Whether you're in it for culture, community or carbs, here's what's happening in and around the city.

Saturday 17 May

Start the day green at the Evercreech Village Hall Plant Sale, with refreshments and a raffle raising funds for the Evercreech Village Show.

In Glastonbury, head to St Benedict's Church for the Repair Café between 10am and 12 noon. Bring something broken, grab a slice of cake, and let someone handy show you how to fix your stuff instead of binning it.

Over in Street, the RC Club is back at the Victoria Club with ramps, chaos, and a separate space for the smaller drivers. Free to attend — just leave the nitro cars at home.

Fancy something a little more civilised? Songs of Farewell at Wells Cathedral offers choral works by Parry, Finzi, Harris and Stanford from 7pm. Sublime acoustics included.

Or, if your idea of culture is sequins, key changes and political point-scoring, Eurovision at The Loft in Street might be more your flavour. There's a pre-show quiz, optional fancy dress, food from 6–8pm and the live show streaming from 8pm, followed by a Eurovision disco until 1am. Hosted by superfan Cristian Lockyer. Sunday 18 May

Freecycle returns to Wells from 1–2pm at the Princes Road Bus Park. Turn up with your unwanted bits or leave with someone else's former treasure. Guilt-free rehoming encouraged.

Toy lovers and vintage nerds, your mothership has landed — the Toy & Train Collectors Fair at the Bath & West Showground is now one of the biggest in the UK, with over 300 stalls of Dinky, Meccano, Action Man, teddies, comics and everything in between. Early bird entry from 8.30am (£10), general entry from 10.30am (£4). Under 16s go free.

And if you'd rather watch people punch each other (in a sporting way), Pyramid Boxing Club brings Rise of the Machine to The Loft in Street. General admission from 1pm, first bout at 2pm. Adults £7, kids £5.

Next week

From Monday 19 to Wednesday 21 May, there's a three-day Lace Making course at Ammerdown — beginners welcome, equipment can be provided, and it's far less stressful than it sounds.

On Tuesday 20 May, the Arts Society Mid Somerset hosts a lecture on 'Art Behind Bars' at Caryford Hall, exploring the role of art in rehabilitation. Coffee from 10.15am. Free for members, £8 for visitors.

Also on Tuesday, the Royal Air Forces Association Mid-Somerset Branch visits Ad Astra Cider Farm for a tour, tasting and the all-important buffet-style ploughman's lunch. All RAF connections and cider lovers welcome.

And don't forget Strode Theatre has a packed week ahead. Films include The Penguin Lessons and Santosh, while the Met Opera brings Salome to the screen, and the South West School of Dance presents One Night Only on Sunday 18 May.
