In a significant shake-up at Somerset Council, Lead Members Tessa Munt and Mike Rigby have announced they will be stepping down from the Executive at the end of the year.

The departures come at a time when the council is grappling with a financial emergency.

Council Leader Bill Revans sees this as a chance to review the Executive's composition, aiming to streamline operations and reduce costs.

Cllr Munt, in her resignation from her role as Executive Lead for Children, Families and Education, reflected on her tenure: "I have enjoyed my work over the last 18 months, learning so much and striving to improve the lives of Somerset's children, young people and families in what has proven to be very challenging financial circumstances."

She expressed confidence in the continuing success of the team she leaves behind, praising their dedication to Somerset's residents.

Cllr Rigby, stepping down as Executive Lead for Transport & Digital, acknowledged the achievements during his term, particularly in highway maintenance and a shift in design philosophy for new settlements, prioritising public and active travel.

Cllr Revans commended both for their substantial contributions: "Both Tessa and Mike have brought a huge amount of talent and experience to their respective roles. They have contributed massively to the work of Somerset Council. I thank them for their service and wish them both well in the future."

He promised an update on the Executive's future composition in light of the ongoing financial challenges.

Both Munt and Rigby will continue serving as local Councillors, maintaining their commitment to the community.
