Slashed with a blade in broad daylight: Police renew appeal over Wells robbery attempt

Police have issued a fresh witness appeal six months after a man was slashed in the neck during a terrifying attempted robbery in Wells city centre.
The incident, which happened in broad daylight near the High Street and Union Street car park on Sunday 15 December, saw the victim—aged in his 40s—threatened and then assaulted with a bladed weapon.
The suspect demanded cash, and when the victim tried to walk away towards the King's Head pub, he was attacked—leaving him with a cut below his left ear. Fortunately, the injury was superficial and didn't require hospital treatment.
A 48-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and remains on conditional bail as investigations continue.
Detectives say they've already combed CCTV, interviewed residents and businesses, and gathered forensic evidence. Now, they're calling on the public to help piece together the final parts of the puzzle.
"We're urging anyone who was in the area between 3.30 and 4pm that day to come forward," said DC Dominika Niepsuj. "Anniversaries often jog memories. If you saw anything—or have footage—you might hold the key to solving this."
If you can help, please call 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5224402692, or complete the online appeals form.
