If your current job has you experiencing a small but noticeable drop in morale every time somebody says "quick catch-up", there are several possible escape routes available this week.

Local employers are recruiting in sales, finance, education, engineering, hospitality and transport, with salaries reaching £80,000. There are also part-time and flexible positions for anyone who wants a change without immediately surrendering every waking hour to it.

First up, an Experienced Window and Door Sales Consultant is wanted for a field-based role covering Somerset and neighbouring counties. The job offers a £30,000 basic salary, fuel card and realistic total earnings of between £60,000 and £80,000. Previous industry experience is required, along with the confidence to discuss windows for considerably longer than most people have ever imagined possible.

Breedon Group is recruiting an HGV Driver at Tor Multimix in Glastonbury. The successful applicant will deliver concrete, asphalt and aggregates to customers and depots, completing vehicle checks and delivery records along the way. A Category C or C+E licence and current Driver CPC qualification are needed, while local road knowledge should help with finding construction sites that appear to have been deliberately hidden behind three unsigned diversions.

Benefits include 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, a pension, life assurance, digital GP access and opportunities for career progression. There is another opening for a Class 2 Driver, this time paying £23.10 an hour. Weekly pay and full mixer training are offered, with ongoing work and the possibility of a permanent position. It could suit an experienced driver keen to move into the tipper and mixer industry — or anyone who would rather deliver concrete than attend another meeting about "building solid foundations".

A part-time Retail Security Officer is also needed at a Glastonbury store. Various shifts are available at £16.20 an hour. Applicants need a door supervision or security guarding SIA licence, although the advert says training and a licence may be funded for newcomers to the industry. The work includes providing a visible security presence, helping protect staff and customers and recording incidents. Good communication skills will matter, particularly when somebody insists they have done absolutely nothing wrong while standing beside the thing they have just done.

In Wells, an established organisation is offering a permanent part-time position for a Finance Clerk. The job covers 28 hours a week and pays between £21,200 and £22,800, equivalent to £26,500 to £28,500 full-time. It promises variety, purpose and flexibility, although presumably not so much flexibility that the numbers are allowed to become approximate.

A Lodge Manager is wanted at St Athelm Lodge on West Street in Wells. The position pays £19,643 a year for 27.5 hours a week, working from 9am to 3pm, Monday to Friday. It combines administration, customer service and supporting people living within the retirement development. It may appeal to somebody who enjoys knowing everyone in the building and can solve a practical problem without first forming a working group to consider it.

Also in Wells, a SEND and SEMH Tutor could earn £32 an hour providing personalised one-to-one education. The successful applicant will work with children and young people who may struggle with emotional regulation, engagement or conventional classrooms. Experience supporting pupils with special educational needs or social, emotional and mental health needs is required.

Patience and adaptability will be important, along with the ability to abandon a carefully prepared lesson without looking as though your entire week has been ruined. In the Shepton Mallet area, a Day Care Host could earn £130 a day by welcoming a small friendship group into their home.

Groups are made up of four older people and meet for up to two full days a week, depending on local demand. The employer is looking for somebody compassionate, versatile and happy to provide a sociable setting. Tea-making ability is not specifically listed, but it feels unwise to rule out its importance.

A local school is also recruiting a Teaching Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs or mental health challenges. Pay is listed at £100 a day, with the work involving one-to-one and small-group support. It is a job for somebody capable of staying calm, building trust and explaining the same thing in six different ways without making the sixth sound even slightly more desperate than the first.

For those whose skills are more mechanical, a Shift Engineer could earn up to £52,000 at a Somerset manufacturing site. The four-on, four-off pattern covers days and nights, with responsibility for electrical maintenance, fault-finding and planned work on automated production and packaging machinery. Applicants need industrial maintenance experience and a recognised engineering qualification. Experience with high-speed food production equipment would also be helpful, although an ability to identify a worrying noise before everybody else begins backing away is presumably valuable too.

An Engineering Project Manager is being sought in Shepton Mallet at a listed rate of £550 a day. The role involves turning operational problems into practical improvements and managing engineering projects through to delivery. It should suit someone who sees a complicated issue and starts forming a plan, rather than closing the door quietly and hoping another department discovers it.

Scania, meanwhile, needs an HGV Technician for its Shepton Mallet operation. The rotating Monday-to-Friday shifts run from 6am to 2pm and 2.30pm to 10pm. Applications are welcomed from experienced HGV technicians and people moving across from car, agricultural, plant or military vehicle maintenance. Training is provided through Scania's National Learning Academy, with overtime, a pension, annual bonus scheme and 25 days' holiday among the benefits. It offers the chance to work on heavy commercial vehicles, where kicking the tyre and saying "that should hold" is unlikely to form part of the approved procedure.

A Somerset country estate is offering up to £80,000 plus a bonus and benefits for a Construction Project Manager. The successful applicant will join a small development team delivering capital projects across a luxury hotel and its grounds. It is a sizeable salary, but then so is the responsibility for making sure "small change to the plans" does not become an entirely different building.

Hospitality workers looking for a four-day week may be interested in the Chef de Partie position at At the Chapel in Bruton. The role pays £33,000 plus service charge, taking expected annual earnings to around £38,000. Staff work four days on and three days off, with free meals on duty, discounts, training and staff events included. The successful chef will run their own section, prepare seasonal dishes and support junior colleagues — all while somehow remaining composed when six orders arrive together and everybody suddenly wants something "without the sauce".

Stay Original is also offering £39,000 plus tips and mileage for a General Manager in Training. The role involves working across the company's hotels and restaurants while preparing to take charge of a property. Applicants should already have senior hospitality management experience, a driving licence and the ambition to become a general manager. It promises a genuine route upwards, rather than the kind of "progression opportunity" that turns out to mean doing your manager's job whenever they are on holiday.

Finally, a Shepton Mallet business needs a temporary HR Administrator. The hybrid role involves three days on site and two working from home, with pay advertised at £28,000 pro rata, or £14.80 an hour. It should suit somebody organised and proactive who can support a busy HR team while tactfully pretending not to have noticed what colleagues have written in the "confidential" comments box.
