Wells Cathedral is preparing to mark Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day with a series of moving services in November 2024.

Residents and visitors are invited to attend these important acts of remembrance, which will include powerful performances of music, moments of reflection, and the much-loved 'poppy drop' in honour of those who gave their lives in service.

The first service, the Remembrance Sunday Eucharist, will take place on Sunday 10 November 2024 at 10:30 a.m. An Act of Remembrance will be woven into the service at 11:00 a.m., with musical pieces by Elgar, Howells, and James MacMillan. Later in the day, at 3:00 p.m., the Cathedral Choir will join forces with the Wells Cathedral School Chamber Choir to offer a devotional performance of Fauré's Requiem. This performance will be interspersed with readings, and the now-familiar 'poppy drop' will take place. Admission to the Requiem is free, with a retiring collection in aid of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Wells Cathedral.

On Monday 11 November, the community will gather once again to mark Armistice Day with a short Act of Remembrance at 11:00 a.m. at the War Memorial in the North Transept. This simple yet powerful event has grown in popularity over recent years, offering a chance to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many.
