Plans have been put forward to Somerset Council to tear down an outbuilding at the Cheddar Valley Inn.

Red Oak Taverns, the pub's owners, aim to build two semi-detached three-bedroom homes on the site.

The existing outbuilding, used for storage, is described as moderately dilapidated and of little value.

The new houses will be two storeys high, featuring white render, a black brick base, clay roof tiles, timber sash windows, timber doors, and black aluminium rainwater pipes. Each house will have a private garden and two parking spaces with electric vehicle charging points.

The proposed development, which will see a smaller beer garden and car park for the pub, follows the pub's listing for sale in November 2023. The sale of the development plot is expected to fund improvements at the Cheddar Valley Inn.

Residents can view updates to the planning application, number 2023/2351/FUL, on the Somerset Council website. Public comments are open until January 31, with a decision expected by March 1 at the latest.
